

HAFF’s thirtieth anniversary is a fine occasion to show its breeding ground. The Netherlands has a long and firm tradition in animated cinema. For the most part, its splendid reputation was earned by the short autonomous film. It is internationally renowned and praised for its high standards and passed through an unprecedented hey-day from the 1970s; reason for Gerrit van Dijk to dedicate himself to an animation film festival in this country at the time. Inspired by social developments, the generation of post-war filmmakers employed animation for their individual expressions, rather than entertainment purposes.
