Shallow Dream
"Dreams have two distinct meanings: the aspirations and desires we wish to fulfill, and the dreams we experience while sleeping. Interestingly, both are expressed with the same word, 'dream,' in both Japanese and English.
By the way, it's said that dreams occur during shallow sleep (REM sleep). The phrase '浅き夢見し酔いもせず' (seeing shallow dreams without getting intoxicated) might refer to the dreams we desire to achieve.
It's a curious commonality in expression. In essence, the act of dreaming itself, whether it's the pursuit of goals or the visions during sleep, might be considered somewhat shallow."
