A puppet tries to leave its bench and explore its surroundings. The journey of the puppet will teach it to overcome its fears, but also to appreciate what it already had.
Competition Student Films 1
70 minutes
The international competition for short student films is open for student films all over the world with a maximum length of 60 minutes. Graduation films as well as films from other years’ courses can be submitted. A Grand Prize will be appointed to the best student film. For this first international edition of the competition for student films, 65 films have been selected.

Satirical ‘newscast’ full of verbal and visual puns in which a maladjusted character tries to understand himself and the world. This leads to a series of sketches ridiculing phenomena of our modern society in encounters and occurrences with a twist. An animation at daggers drawn in very sober lines.

A visual interpretation of Charles Bukowski´s 'Downtown Billy' from 1992.
The viewer witnesses the uprising and fall of a boxer with which Bukowsi identifies himself with in his later years.

My Dad
A short film depicting a dad's influence on a young boy's life. His judgmental character mixed with the boys fondness for his dad prove to be a toxic mix that tears away at a world of opportunity and experiences. A short animation made with oil pastels and newspaper clippings.
Something Important
Something Important is a 2D animation, which presents the filmmaker's personal journey of self-discovery woven as a tapestry of his memories. Liu uses an abstract montage style that combines hand-drawn elements with composited photo realistic scenes in tandem with music to express his life experiences filtered through time and remembrance.

Warm Snow
"Warm snow" is an animation short about the relationship between a father and his grown up daughter. It starts out in an ordinary situation with the father and daughter sitting at the kitchen table. The daughter is waiting for her food to get warm and is annoyed by her father's questions and suggestions. The situation then develops and transforms into a surrealistic world full of love and pain.
