Edinburgh, 1874; the coldest day in history. Jack is born with a frozen heart. Midwife Madeleine immediately replaces it with a cuckoo clock and, to be on the safe side, keeps him inside during his first years. She drums three rules into him: never touch the hands of the clock, control his temper and never fall in love. When she lets him go outside after ten years, he promptly loses his heart to the young singer Acacia. She has her own handicap, with her blurred eyesight. When Acacia leaves school, Jack traverses half of Europe to find her.
Dazzling movie addresses themes like handicaps, bullying, courage, illegal immigration and the origins of cinema. Featuring music by Dionysos, whose lead singer is co-director Mathias Malzieu.
