Meet the Jury: Evert de Beijer & Andreas Hykade

Evert de Beijer
Evert de Beijer (1953, NL) studied graphic design and came in contact with animation via a project study. De Beijer only started getting really involved with animation during his third year at the State Academy fine Art Dortlinfenced by Joji Kuri's drawing style and encouraged by lecturer Jef Nassenstein, De Beijer made the animation film Gerard as his final exam project. Internationally, this was received very enthusiastically. His second film, The Characters (1986) was just as successful and has won various prestigious prizes. A commercial commission from the Nike sports brand came out of this. For his last film Car Craze (2003) he switched from analogue to digital technique which he taught himself, as an autodidact. He received a special jury mention for the futuristic Car Craze in Annecy and an AnyZone Award at the Holland Animation Film Festival 2004.
Andreas Hykade
Andreas Hykade (Germany, 1968) is the director of personal, moving films like We Lived in Grass (1995) and Ring of Fire (2000) which were sometimes also experienced as controversial. Recently his latest film The Runt had its première. He learned to draw in the bar, while his father was playing cards with friends. He studied at the Baden-Württemberg film academy. The coming-of-age We Lived in Grass tells the story of sexual development, seen through the eyes of a child. From the moment that Hykade went to work for Studio Film Bilder he steadily built on an astonishing oeuvre of commissioned films, including countless prize-winning commercials and video clips. The television series for children Tom from the Studio Film Bilder is also by him. In addition he teaches animation and gives workshops.
