Meet the Jury: Pjotr Sapegin

Pjotr Sapegin

Pjotr Sapegin (1955, Moscow) worked for fifteen years as a set designer in Moscow where he trained at the Stanislavsky Theater Academy. In 1990, he emigrated to Norway where he started making animation films. He is one of the founders of animation studio Studio Magica, Oslo and since 2001 has had his own production company Pravda Productions together with David Reiss-Andersen and Mikkel Sandemose. He has directed a long list of films but because of his very individualistic style, his work was not really appreciated at the beginning of his career. After Mons the Cat won important prizes, his career gathered speed. His work is generally highly praised at international animation festivals and One Day a Man Bought a House won more than twenty prizes. In 2004, the Holland Animation Film Festival young people's jury awarded a MovieZone Award to Through My Thick Glasses and it is now to be seen nationally as a short in MovieZone.
