Meet the Jury: Tim Hope & Nicole Hewitt

After his degree in theology, Tim Hope moved to Lon-don. There he worked as a stand-up comedian for four years, and founded the comedy techno band The Pod, together with Julian Barrett. He began to experiment with digital images and computer animation in order to accompany his live shows. Short animated birthday cards for family and friends follow, in order to save money. The Wolfman (2000) won several prizes including the McLaren Animation Prize at the Edinburgh Film Festival. Since 2000, he has been working for Passion Pictures as director of music videos and commercials, including Don't Panic and Trouble for Coldplay and I Walk The Earth for King Biscuit Time. Since then he has been directing video clips for One Giant Leap and R.E.M. and a long list of prize winning commercials. Latest milestone was formed by the triptych Minema Cinema.

Nicole Hewitt (1965, GB) spent a large part of her youth in Zagreb, Croatia. She studied expressive multi-media in London. She specialized in puppet animation at the Jiri Trnka Studio in Prague. Since 1989, Hewitt has made films in various techniques, thus proving that animation is not a lonely professional in a studio. She went out into the streets of Zagreb for the animated documentary In Between and films the annual collection of large domestic rubbish. After obtaining her masters degree, she is now busy completing her PhD thesis. She works in groups on various multi-media projects such as the Editing project, that was presented at the 51st Venice Biennale. She gives lessons in animation and new media in Zagreb at the Academy of Fine Art.
