75 minutesHAFF annually puts the spotlight on an art academy. The renowned California Institute of the Arts (Valencia, USA) was founded by Walt Disney in the 1960s as an ideal of interdisciplinary inspiration for visual and performing arts in then post-modern Los Angeles. CalArts offers two animation programmes: Character and Experimental. Many a famous animation artist was trained here. Think of John Lasseter (DreamWorks), Stephen Hillenburg (SpongeBob), but also someone like Craig McCracken (Powerpuff Girls). Irene Kotlarz (director of Experimental Animation) and present-day students compiled two programmes from the CalArts archives, showcasing the development of the training.
