The Magic Mountain

In the form of an animated docu-drama, the biography of Adam Jacek Winker wonders through nearly half a century of history. He tells his daughter Ania the story of ‘the last knight of the twentieth century’ or ‘ how I spent the end of the world’, because he was part of it, and more than once. As former art history student, the Polish refugee in Paris sold everything to leave for Afghanistan to fight with the Mujahideen against Soviet Armed Forces. He sketches a turbulent history of war, destruction and survival instinct (‘Remember the rules of survival. 1. Don’t die, if possible’) supported by a combination of live action, cut out, drawings and painted animation. Director Anca Damian is well known for her committed films like the animated documentary Crulic: the Path to Beyond (2012).
