Wrinkles

85 minutes

A charming and polite prison movie, that’s the best way we can describe this black-hearted comedy. Wrinkles is a Spanish film about overlooked seniors locked away behind the iron gates of a retirement home.

Directed by Ignacio Ferreras and based on a graphic novel by Paco Roca, the story follows Emilio, a retired bank manager whose son puts him in a care home when he starts to become too forgetful. Once there, Emilio is befriended by the somewhat dodgy Miguel, who shows him how to survive and make friends in his new surroundings.

Though the film paints a desolate picture of retirement homes, we know that its equally lovable and quirky characters will make you laugh (and cry).

Former bank manager Emilio is dispatched to a retirement home by his family. His new roommate is a wily wheeler-dealer named Miguel, who cheerfully swindles small amounts of cash from the more befuddled residents but is also full of handy insider tips that are crucial to survival.
