Industry Day

As was tradition at HAFF and KLIK, we’ll organize a varied program that endeavors to feed the bellies of the engines powering the Dutch animation industry. At the first edition of Kaboom Animation Festival we will lay the foundation for an Industry Day which will bring together professionals in a feast made of fruitful connections and exchanges of knowledge.

Our program is packed with masterclasses, workshops and interesting talks. For this edition we’re collaborating with ArtEZ, AKV St. Joost, WDKA, Dutch Filmacademy and are proud to work with the University of the Arts Utrecht (HKU) as location partner.

Read more about it on this page.

NOTE: Industry Day tickets are completely sold out. But we hope to see you at one of our many other events at Kaboom 2019.

Program Industry Day

09:30 - Welcome and Registration

Please make sure to be at the HKU at 09.30 to pick up your badge.

10.00 - Creativity within a Team

HKU auditorium – A presentation by Illuster’s Michiel Snijders, in which he will talk about the creativity within an animation team. Founded in 1997, Illuster has become the biggest producer of animated short films in the Netherlands, winning many awards on international film festivals. This presentation will be about the creative process within a team: how do you build a strong creative team where the members work well together and nobody’s skull gets bashed in?

11.15 - Focus on Stopmotion Animation

HKU auditorium – In this programme we’re delving into stopmotion animation, specifically exploring interesting hybrid projects that combine stopmotion animation and other animation forms. Joining us are Agnieszka Kowalewska-Skowron and Paulina Zacharek from the Animarkt Stop Motion Forum, Europe’s prime international event devoted exclusively to stop motion, and award winning director Peter Vacz.

12.45 - Pop-up: Animation Master Pilot Presentation

This short presentation will give an impression of the Pop-up Animation Pilot: a project that currently runs at AKV St. Joost. This project is a pilot for a Minor programme that will be jointly developed by AKV St. Joost, HKU, Artez and Willem de Kooning. The initiative attempts to fill the need for more skilled newly graduated specialists that have experience working in a proper pipeline production, using industry standard software.

14.00 – Ooh, what does this person do?

HKU auditorium – Professionals from several specialisms within the animation industry tell us what their job actually entails. A nice chance for students and young professionals to be introduced to specific roles within the animation industry, and to be shown glimpses of possible career paths.

15.45 – Dutch Yearbook

HKU auditorium – We’re having a chat about some of the biggest Dutch animated projects of the last year, and let the creators talk about the blood, sweat and tears they sacrificed to the animation gods to actually get all of these made.

17.30 – Debutante Ball

HKU auditorium – At this networking event, we present seasoned animation pros with the showreels of the freshest batch of Dutch animation graduates.

18.30 – Industry drinks

Then: drinks!
