Winner of the Cristal Award at Annecy, April and the Extraordinary World tells the tale of an alternative 1941 Paris, in which Napoleon V rules France and where scientists have been mysteriously disappearing for the last 70 years, depriving mankind of their inventions. Teenage girl Avril sets off in search of her parents, two of the missing scientists. Together with her talking cat, her grandfather, and a police informer, she faces many dangers and mysteries in this strange steampunk-inspired world.

This beautiful hand-drawn film is a rendition of the graphic novel by Jacques Tardi, who’s also the film’s art director.
