The Cartoon d’Or is the prestigious European prize for short animated films of Cartoon, the European Association of Animation Film, supported by the MEDIA Programme. The films that compete for the Cartoon d’Or are nominated by animation film festival partners, including the Holland Animation Film Festival. 

The Cartoon d’Or is awarded each year in September, at the Cartoon Forum, the forum designed to support the co-production, financing and distribution of European animation for television and new media platforms. The trophy is awarded together with a financial aid, to be used by the winning director to start a new project, such as a feature film, a series or a TV special. In this way the Cartoon d’Or supports the European animation industry. The Cartoon d’Or started off in 1991 and was awarded that year to Nick Park, for Creature Comforts. This programme screens the finalists and winners of the Cartoon d’Or 2007 and 2008, supplemented with some previous winners.
