Daan takes his spot on the backseat as he travels to Ascona with his parents. He is an only child and spends his time listening to music. Gradually, the hidden tension between his parents surfaces. A disagreement escalates into a fight and Daan ends up in the middle of it all.

Observation Animation

Observation Animation

  • Loes van Dorp
  • The Netherlands, 2012

While traveling by train, Loes van Dorp has been writing down her observations and thoughts.
This animation tells one of these trips in word and animated charcoal images. The very soft, almost whispering voice-over gives it a very intimate atmosphere. The vulnerability of the medium charcoal adds to this.
