Music video for Danish band Interfoam. Creatures with thin and disabled bodies form visual instruments. They create visual music with their different rhythms, separate and together, in various combinations.

-------------------------------------------------
Hello!
My name i Louise Johannesen, Im an exchange student at Willem De Kooning Academy, originally I study at Designskolen Kolding in Denmark. For my bachelor project I animated a musicvideo for a danish band called Interfoam. I developed a series of 'physically disabled creatures', as I call them, which by their very different body structures creates different rythms when they move. It is very much the movements of these creatures which is the main focus of the video. The keyword for my video is: visual music. The creatures work as visual instruments, which enhances the music. Their 'dissabled bodies' give them different rythms which relates to the instruments in the track. They create visual music, seperately and together in different combinations. I want the music to be the story, which is why I didn't choose to make a seperate and concrete story in the video, so it's very much a story about the mood of the music and the music itself, it's still very open to interpretation, which the track itself also is because it has no lyrics. It was my second time animating, but it is definitely not my last.

Hope you enjoy it.

The River

The River

  • David Mag Kellner
  • Austria, 2013
  • 16 min.

The River is a silent movie animation mildly based on the myth of the Ancient Greek river Styx. This river formed a boundary between the world of the Living and the Dead. A ferryman would await the deceased and transport them for money to the other side. The concept of the Styx itself is traditionally crazy as it is an attempt to comprehend naked life and death by overlaying it with a concept based on known conventions of money transfer made up by the living fools.
In the actual movie one more of these living fools finishes his book and heads out to the exploitation.
On his way he passes a giant queue of people which seems to extend itself all over the city. At first he attempts to avoid this queue but as he reaches his destination he finally just becomes part of it and the movie's focus shifts towards where this queue actually leads to.
There is no sound and smell accompanying this movie besides the sound and smell of your own and your environment.

This Place Was A Shelter

This Place Was A Shelter

  • Harvey Herman
  • United Kingdom, 2013
  • 3 min.

This Place Was A Shelter is a music video created for ambient electronic artist Olafur Arnalds. The video expands on the title of the track while also drawing upon personal interests in structure and liminal space, and acts as an ode to a vanished home.

As the music, and a rainstorm, progresses, different elements of a building appear. This leads to the development of various incidental structures that eventually come together to form a home.

One key aim with the video was sychronicity of sound and visuals. Responding carefully to the track, various audio elements could be drawn out from the music and recontextualised: different levels of an electronic beat are therefore transformed into the sounds of emerging walls, shifting concrete, and flickering paintwork.

The atmosphere of the video is aesthetically inspired by, and includes, textures and areas photographed in urban outskirts. The awkward spaces that are found on the edges of a city, often transitional or neglected, possess a strange ghostly quality that informs the
ethereal structure featured in the film.
