Competition HAFFTube

Competition HAFFTube

And the winner is... Bugging the Bug by Velislav Kazakov (Cuckoo Animation, Canada), about a ladybug in a world of comic catastrophe. The runner-up - who came very close! - is Flowers of Chaos of Junyong Wu (Hongkong).
The international competition for web animations (five minutes max) took place on HAFFTube, supported by YouTube. The competition started in February. The first ten days, around five films a day were uploaded. Gradually, HAFFTube filled with animation films from all over the world, surprisingly including a lot of new work. The limit for the number of films was set at fifty. When this number was reached, HAFF removed a few films every day to make room for new entries.
The unrivalled champion for a long time was Standing Up For Freedom of Carlos Lascano (Czech Republic/Spain), a heartbreakingly beautiful spot for Amnesty International for their fiftieth anniversary. In runner-up At Fingertips van Rafi Yaniger (Israel) we experience reality from the point of view of a blind man. Natalia Cristine Alencar (Brazil) uses coffee cups to pay tribute to Kafka in Cafeka
The deadline was set at 10 March. Subsequently, a jury consisting of filmmakers whose films were selected for the shorts competition took over and appointed a winner from the remaining shortlist.

This program screened as part of HAFF 2012

Life in a Frame

Time is a moving picture of eternity. A moving track that moves relentlessly in front of our eyes while with fear we realize that a moment is impossible to catch, take back, look at or live over again. The moments that go by are just a developed track behind us, in our memories, irreparably carved in eternity, untouchable, more distant, in a moment it seams as a hallucination that may never happened. This film is a lyric attempt to keep these memories into authors own frame and tame it trough cadres of an animation.

My Bloody Lad was produced by Quad by four young 3D artists : Cyrille Chauvin, Guillaume Dousse, Thibaud Petitpas and Pierre Rutz, who are first year students at Gobelins School of the Image. This movie was made as part of their last one-and-a-half-month internship, from July to August. On the very first day, the producers and the young 3D artists agreed on a clear artistic management, that of cartoon. Once settled in the studio, the artists were immersed in a real professional context that aimed at writing a script as well as at conducting detailed research around design. The bet was carried out since the short film was broadcasted in less than 6 weeks. The wonderful soundtrack was created by Apollo, a studio which is based in Toronto and which has already worked for Quad in the past, at the time of the award-winning Scrabble campaign (by Irina Dakeva). Now gone back to Gobelins School, they are pursuing their creations under the name of « Dead Walter »
