Consuming Spirits

Melancholy psychological drama about three local newspaper contributors in Magussen, a former industrial town in the Northeastern United States. Earl Gray (67) writes a column and presents a night-time radio show on gardening, in which he combines crop-growing tips with reflections on life. Genny Violet (42) is a fairly inconspicuous lay-out editor, doing voluntary work as a bus driver and museum guide. She lives with her mother Ida who has Alzheimer’s and she has a relationship with her colleague Victor Blue (38), who has been guided by social workers from early childhood. And then there is a local insane asylum (doubling as a convent. Impressive combination of cut-out and model animation, alternating with flowing black-and-white drawings, accompanied by Irish music. English spoken.
