Get to know one of the world's greatest folk heroes: Anansi the Spider!
Anansi the Spider is one of the great folk heroes of the world. He is rogue, a mischief maker, and a wise, lovable creature who triumphs over larger foes. And everyone in West-Africa, Suriname and the Caribbean knows him. In the Netherlands, however, Anansi is yet to be discovered! This is the ideal opportunity to get to know him. Each episode tells a fairytale about Anansi and how he outsmarts his adversaries!

Anansi promises his friends Turtle and Otter a nice meal if they harvest the sweet potatoes from his garden. Anansi eats everything, cleverly ‘blaming’ his friends for making him eat it all. Turtle sees through this scheme but apologizes by inviting Anansi with all his pots, cutlery and pans and ingredients so they can cook for him this time. But they give him a taste of his own, leaving an embarrassed Anansi with all the dirty dishes.
One morning everybody is robbed from their food. Even the King. It was Tiger! King promises Anansi a ‘kings meal’ for all if he gets rid of Tiger. Anansi tells the world he will ride Tiger out of town like a silly mule. Soon Tiger calls on Anansi’s bluff. But Anansi claims he is sick. With reverse psychology Anansi tricks the very proud Tiger to carry him to the King. With this Anansi ends up embarrassing Tiger so badly that he leaves town.
The animals of the forest are being tricked and bullied by the otherwise friendly Monkey. Anansi’s idea to take revenge changes when his wife Makuba points out that Monkey has often been the recipient of their jokes. It mighT not be Monkey’s fault. What she needs is positive vibes. So they set a trap filled with possible practical jokes for her. When it springs, all jump out to give her love and apologies, curing her of the ‘monkey on her back’.
The Anansi family is going to visit Grandma. The children decorate a box as a present and Anansi is to fill it with sweet delights. He cannot resist tasting some and ends up with an empty gift. He fills it with twigs and during the trip tries to ‘lose’ it. But his friends keep helping him. When they arrive at grandma’s she is delighted by the beautiful box and - knowing her son all too well, says she is happy they did not bring sweets.

While picking bananas with his son Kofi, Anansi gets into an argument with Elephant. Anansi has to make a huge effort while she just bumps her butt against the tree. Their argument ends with Anansi challenging her to a tug of war with him, claiming he is the strongest. Anansi cleverly cashes in on a favor from Whale and wins the game and the bet. As is always the case, the bet was over food. Food that is shared with all.
