Fact: Gerrit van Dijk is one of the most influential animators to have ever graced the Netherlands. Kaboom honours the Dutch maestro with some of his most astonishing shorts, including the Golden Bear-winning Pas à deux and I move, so I am. You were a wizard, Gerrit!

In A Good Turn Daily the rebellion and idealism of Van Dijk's earlier films make way for a more cynical approach. A boy scout tries to help everyone he encounters, but before he can lend a helping hand he is already distracted by the next problem. A mix of historical recordings and animation film, Van Dijk's short is a visual display of animation forms and techniques.
An indictment against the rapidly advancing urbanization. The film shows a butterfly in field that flies from one flower to the next. The pleasant scene is disrupted by cut-out pictures of blocks of apartments and flats that leap into view to the sound of a pile driver. The butterfly's end is inevitable.
Frieze Frame geeft andermaal blijk van Van Dijk’s innige band met de beeldende kunst. Negenendertig schilderijen uit de collectie van het Frans Halsmuseum te Haarlem worden tot leven gebracht door de voorstellingen in de schilderijen te bewerken tot bezielde tableaus en in elkaar over te laten vloeien.
Frieze Frame again displays Van Dijk’s deep and intimate bond with the visual arts. Thirty-nine paintings from the Frans Hals museum collection in Haarlem are brought to life by re-modelling the representations in the paintings into impassioned tableaus and merging them with each other.

In an uninterrupted series of chalk drawings, the process of procreation through to the birth of a child is portrayed, against the background of Gustav Mahler’s ‘Das Lied von der Erde’. The film is an ode to the creation of a new life and a homage to Van Dijk’s own daughter, Janneke.
Begeleid door het getik van een typemachine ontrolt zich een brief waarin de vrijlating van de Amerikaanse kleurlinge Dessie Woods wordt bepleit. Woods werd in een geruchtmakende rechtszaak veroordeeld tot een gevangenisstraf van 22 jaar omdat zij de blanke man die haar wilde verkrachten doodde met diens eigen wapen.
Accompanied by the tapping of a typewriter a letter unfolds pleading for the release of the coloured American, Dessie Woods. In a controversial court case Woods was given a 22 year jail sentence because she killed a white man with his own weapon, who wanted to rape her.
Van Dijk begon met het maken van zijn allerlaatste film toen hij van zijn artsen hoorde dat hij nog maar een paar maanden te leven had. De tijd die hem nog restte, maakte hij elke dag tenminste één tekening voor de deze film.
Van Dijk started working on his very last film when he heard from his doctors that he only had a few months to live. In the time that remained, he made at least one drawing every day for this film.
The 1989 Golden Bear-winner by Monique Renault and Gerrit van Dijk, in which the appearance of two dance partners changes constantly. Countless historical figures and icons twirl by. Tarzan dances with Snow White, the Pope dances with Joan of Arc etc.. Van Dijk drew the female figures, Renault the male ones.

A photograph of a youngster with a football under his arm - filmmaker Gerrit Van Dijk's own son - smoothly changes into an aquarelle and is transformed into various sports figures. Spurred on by an increasingly fanatical public the youngster mutates into a monstrous bundle of muscles. Too much?
