We all want to belong, don't we? Illustration Embassy and Kaboom let animation and illustration meet in a accessible yet thought-provoking exhibition on the notion of 'Home'.

We all want to belong, right? A warm nest - in any form: family, friends, sports club etc. - is not to underestimated. The same with the artists from different disciplines who reflected on Kaboom's festival theme "Home" for the exhibition Home, A Sense of Belonging, an expo at the intersection of illustration and animation.

Anyone, rich or poor, male or female or X, child or adult, everyone longs for a home somewhere in this world. With our hurried and increasingly divided society at a juncture that seems both technologically and ideologically adrift, that longing has become an urgent topic - also for artists. In this expo, illustrators and animators reflect on Kaboom's festival theme in their own, unique way.

Whereas an animator immediately thinks in a sequence of images to obtain his narrative, for the illustrator an independent, condensed image is just the start that gets a story or an idea going. This exhibition engages within that intriguing dialogue. The works on display are interactive, investigative, questioning, tactile, poetic, and sometimes experimental. Some of the works were created especially for the expo. The dialectic between illustrations and animations, and the constant crossing of boundaries (along both sides) ignites a new way of thinking. In an accessible way, Home, A Sense of Belonging highlights the individuality of the illustrator in the animation idiom. The exhibition kicks off on the opening day of Kaboom Animation Festival in Amsterdam and will continue for over a month after the festival.
