Intra Muros

In close collaboration with the Town Hall of the City of Utrecht the Holland Animation Film Festival presents an installation of the successful American- Canadian artist Rose Bond, entitled Intra Muras. For the HAFF the existing installation will be expressly tailored for the Town Hall in Utrecht, a marvellous and certainly unique spot in the heart of the city to present animation as autonomous art to a large audience. At the juncture of cinema, architecture and public art, Rose Bond re-imagines animation. She explores fresh perspectives to expand the sensory expectations of viewers, and to find emergent ways to experience moving image art.
The installation is made up of a loop of eight minutes, with moving images projected on the inside of the windows on the second floor of the Town Hall on the side of the Stadhuisbrug (bridge). The animation will be visible outsight the building during the festival, from 17:00 till midnight. The multi-windowed projection will transform the surrounding square into a cinema-lit lyceum.
Intra Muros delivers a personal and voyeuristic glimpse into an artist’s struggles with creative malaise. Rose Bond visually samples work from experimental giants Norman McLaren, Len Lye and herself as Judith Gruber-Stitzer’s soundtrack ranges from contemplative to cacophonous.
