Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

Filmmaker Michel Gondry interviews the celebrated and controversial linguist, philosopher and political activist Noam Chomsky about his life and work. With (hand-)drawn animations, Gondry visualises what Chomsky says or, rather, what he thinks Chomsky means. He regularly shows his own struggle, too, to properly depict everything. The result is literally and figuratively an animated conversation, with a few live recordings shot with a classic Bolex camera. Intelligent and fascinating, not just for Chomsky fans. The title of the documentary has been derived from the sentence Noam Chomsky uses to analyse to illustrate his theory on language acquisition and the existence of a generative grammar.
