Joost Rekveld (NL, 1970) studies at the Conservatorium in The Hague and specializes in experimental film and electronic music. During his study he works as a programmer and film operator in several cinema clubs and the experimental Impakt Festival in Utrecht. As an independent filmmaker he makes several abstract short films and kinetic installations, in which light, colour and movement are very important. He is fascinated by technology. Rekveld calls his work 'visual music' and 'moving light'. But Rekveld also keeps his passion for music. With some friends he starts the ensamble Çalgija (later Al Farabi), which performs Balkan and Oriental music als authentic as possible. Since 1996 Rekveld teaches at his old school and also gives lectures and workshops in several countries.
