A queer cult classic in the making, Lesbian Space Princess is an outrageously fun sci-fi adventure about Saira, "the most boring royal in the history of Clitopolis". Where the flipping f**k is Clitopolis, you might ask. Well, it's a planet that is "famously hard to find". Saira is devastated when she is unexpectedly dumped by her girlfriend and sapphic cool kid, Kiki - who also happens to be a bounty hunter. But when Kiki is kidnapped by the galaxy's most obnoxious villains, the forgotten (and desperate-for-chicks) Straight White Maliens (yep, you read that correctly), Saira is forced to step up and blast off on a mission to save the girl she definitely (maybe?) still has feelings for.

The stage is set for a cosmic rollercoaster through gay space (which is of course protected by a safety bubble). Transport comes in the form of a mansplaining spaceship with a problematic personality stuck in the 21st century. Proudly wearing its influences on its sleeve, from Futurama and Rick & Morty to even Fritz the Cat - Lesbian Space Princess is the first ever fully animated feature film to come out of South Australia.

Making their feature debut, Emma Hough Hobbs and Leela Varghese have written a hilarious quest for (self)love which warps us to an offbeat collection of hazardous encounters with gloom goo, blade-wielding maniacs, dangerous dick turrets and the scariest thing of all: self-doubt. Lesbian Space Princess is a queer-positive space opera filled with tongue-in-cheek humour, and ... euh ... a lot of tongues in cheeks. The film playfully flips heteronormative tropes, combining classic Saturday morning cartoon chaos with postmodern irony. Now, where's Clitopolis again?
