Let’s have a picnic, Nancy Denney-Phelps style! In honour of the beloved animation historian’s latest book, On the Animation Trail: 20 Years of Animation Festival History, we decided to recreate her legendary yearly picnic at Annecy Festival, which everyone raves about. Only difference: we’re not in Annecy, and it’s not in Summer. But hey, we don’t make the rules. During the picnic, we’ll talk to Nancy about her twenty odd years in our industry, and all those richly-told stories, including how she spent a week on a boat with 200 animators or that one time when she was thrown off a train in Belarus.
When animation know-it-all Nancy Denney-Phelps writes a book with stories and insights from twenty years of animation festival history, with front and back covers drawn by Joanna Quinn, you know you’re in for a treat. Denney-Phelps lives and breathes animation. In this new book, she not only records the films and festivals attended, but also the people and what makes each festival unique. And while we’re at it, let’s throw in a special film in the mix: Nancy’s Spectacle(s) is a pixilated romp through the animation world through (and with) Nancy’s magical glasses. Don’t miss out on this event with a born storyteller.
