Once upon a time ... Films from all over the world came together on a glorious battlefield. Victory would be for one of them. But there would be no losers, because talent and art are there to be celebrated, to be loved, to be remembered and to be devoured by you ... the audience. The battle would forever be known as Kaboom's International Short Film Competition. And we are honoured to organise that competition year in year out. In 2024, a large number of short films again battle it out for our coveted awards.

A cat lover, Jesus leaving the cross and Christmas carollers holding pitchforks are set against a snowy and icy scenery in this punk Christmas mosaic of a small fisherman's village. Partly based on Tomek Popakul's own winter memories, Zima is an eerie story of loneliness and of a community where different views, the behaviour of people and animals and their mutual relations clash like ice floes. Infused with punk, choir and piano music, this magical realist animation shows horror, cruelty, but also tender care in a frozen lagoon.
