  • Germany / South Korea / United States, 2021
  • 6 min.

Inspired by Picasso's hypermasculine print series 'Vollard Suite', South-Korean animator Chaerin Im sought to deconstruct the mythical figure of the Minotaur. With the use of light, reflection, and shadow of the engraved plexiglass and cyanotypes, the film goes through the gender-shifting faces of the creature, as he has a violent struggle between the two sexes. Until, finally, lines blur and boundaries of sexes disappear.

This darkly humorous student work embodies both the cute and the macabre. With deliciously gross puppets, Love Is Just a Death Away shows how, for some, life starts after death for someone else.
