Once upon a time ... Films from all over the world came together on a glorious battlefield. Victory would be for one of them. But there would be no losers, because talent and art are there to be celebrated, to be loved, to be remembered and to be devoured by you ... the audience. The battle would forever be known as Kaboom's International Short Film Competition. And we are honoured to organise that competition year in year out. In 2024, a large number of short films again battle it out for our coveted awards.

Three balding brothers travel to Istanbul to get a hair transplant. Stuck with each other in a hotel far from home, their insecurities and frustrations grow faster than their hair. Since 2017, Nicolas Keppens has emerged as one of Belgium's most promising animators, making waves with films like Wildebeest and Easter Eggs (Jury Prize winner at Annecy 2021). This film’s stop-motion animation puppets are made using Taiwan’s unique papermaking technique rooted in traditional funeral ceremonies. Compound Eyes of Tropical uses the perspective of a fly to create a montage film language using the metaphor of the compound eye. The film portrays the Southeast Asian folktale The Mousedeer Crossing the River though multiple perspectives, reinterpreting the story’s multiple facets across cultures.
