The Boy and the World

80 minutes

This beautiful Brazilian film will blow you away. Meet Cuca, a young boy from a cozy village who goes on a quest to reunite his family after his father leaves to find work in the city.

Alê Abreu's Oscar-nominated gem is an explosion of music and color, showing the wonders and struggles of the modern world through the eyes of a small child.

The film was created using a mix of drawing, painting, and digital animation. What starts off with relatively simple visuals takes on greater complexity as Cuca’s small world expands from farm animals and endless green fields, to favelas and neon signs. Through it all, the film’s compelling, melancholy story ties everything together.
