Explore weird Dutch culture thanks to South Korean Rotterdammer Soyeon Lee.

Ok, we admit it. Dutch culture is a bit weird. And perhaps hard to grasp for foreigners. After moving from South Korea to the Netherlands, Draw Soso (Soyeon Lee) was shocked by Dutch culture and felt misunderstood. In a journey of trying to understand Dutch culture and Dutch people better, there was a lack of good Dutch content in English available. Often only boring books filled with cliches such as windmills, cheese and tulips. After she lived in the Netherlands for four years, Draw Soso experienced and learned about real Dutch culture through local friends. She set out to make a book (This is SO x2 Dutch) to help internationals who are struggling with Dutch culture, or Dutch friends who don't recognize their own culture.

The exposition engages with the audience by offering a unique interactive experience. Visitors can try on Dutch wooden shoes called "klompen" (a must!), alongside five other wood sculptures, such as Jacuzzi boats, a dog toilet, the Dutch police on horseback, and beer boxes.

During their journey, visitors are immersed in Dutch culture and customs, engaging with the exhibits in a hands-on way that encourages them to connect with the culture on a deeper level. Dutch culture might be a bit weird, but it is still really worth exploring!

- between 12 and 14 april in Eye Filmmuseum, Amsterdam
