LIVYATANIM: Myth

LIVYATANIM: Myth

  • Or Fleisher
  • Israel, 2016

The film is a collaboration between Or Fleisher and one of Livyatanim’s creators - Aviv Meshulam. The film’s conception had emerged during a set of sessions between Aviv and Or, These sessions outlined the conceptual essence of this piece and included generous amounts of caffeine. At it's core, the film was founded on the examination between the natural and digital worlds. Following that line of thought, elements in the film had to be made in a way that presented the aforementioned distinctions between the natural and digital in the form of hybrid beings and landscapes.

In a land that never was and a time that could never be, a child stared into the eyes of a fantastical creature. Around them, a magical forest, in front of them, a magical journey.

The Turning Forest is a virtual reality fairytale written by Shelley Silas, directed by Oscar Raby, produced by VRTOV, with 3D sound by BBC Research & Development in collaboration with S3A.

A unique VR audio proposition, the sound was recorded on location in a forest with a 20 microphone 3D array. This was followed by intricate 3D sound design creating a mix with complex layers of natural sound.

The piece demonstrates the possibilities of richer sound in virtual reality.

Directed by Oscar Raby, VRTOV has worked with BBC R&D to craft a powerful, art-driven experience that evokes the emotional space of a magical forest, enchanted with sounds - a place where anything might happen.
