Wherever I Lay My Hat (That’s My Home)

75 minutes

Home is wherever. But not everybody chooses to leave home. A short film programme on migration, dreaming of a better life, and travels of all sorts.

In his 1962 song, Marvin Gaye chants "Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home)", delving into the inner feelings of a wandering soul who isn't able to fully invest in romantic relationships and finds solace in the fact that home is wherever one chooses to lay their hat. And Gaye wasn't wrong in those lyrics, yet many people don't chose to leave home. They are forced to move, to travel, to flee or to stay in captivity. This programme summons stories about forced migration, dreaming of a better life "Abroad", and all kinds of travels. Indiana Jones may have finally take his hat off for good, many still struggle to find a place to lay down theirs.
