đź’– Discover our theme and poster for 2024 đź’–

Home sweet home. Zoals het klokje thuis tikt, tikt het nergens (As the clock ticks at home, it ticks nowhere else). Home is where the heart is. There’s no place like home. What does home mean to you? What if it’s no longer a place, but an object, a person, a memory, a taste, a language, a smell or an image?

We’re excited to announce the theme of this year’s edition. Kaboom Animation Festival 2024 says: Welcome Home. 🏠 🤍

In this year’s theme program, we explore the theme of home in animation. In various programs we offer a mix of visual gems exploring home as a space, and films about subjects related to home, like forced migration, being unrooted and future nomadism. We invite audiences and artists to name, draw, design and inhabit elements that make them feel at home. We engage in conversation with visitors that have a variety of relations to feeling at home in the Netherlands. By exchanging stories, we want to make everyone feel at home and welcome each other.

We can also finally share the poster with you! Designed by the amazing Leyla Ali, our illustrator we are now working with for the 4th year in a row. Here are her thoughts behind the artistic inspiration of it:

🤍 “The illustration is heavily influenced by my family image. My uncle used to take photos of our family in the 90s, and I can’t express how much I love these photos. Azerbaijani families are loud, expressive and all about long gatherings with enough food to feed a village. His old Zenith did a good job capturing the mood of those years. Messy, happy, barefoot running around in my grandpa’s garden. I remember that my mom always had colorful gorgeous sweaters (most of the photos are black and white, but I remember!) So that’s what I tried to show on the illustration, and I combined it with the image of what my own family could look like in the future.”Â
